Meet Nikki McLeary - Human Performance Scientist & Professional Adventurer Since 1998

For the past 26 years I've been immersed in evidence-based performance interventions for individuals and teams operational in high-consequence environments. From elite extreme athletes pushing the boundaries of human endeavour, to business leaders in pressurised scenarios, to ex-military personnel on remote expeditions. Alongside my business background and academics I am a professional adventurer with 15 years full-time operational experience across desert, winter mountain and ocean environments. 

As a real-world example of my work I was selected as Chief Scientific Officer from 2020 - 2023 for World Extreme Medicine / Paramount Studios co-leading a multi-million dollar covid mitigation contract. Our objective was employee safety, and by default business continuity, across major Hollywood productions including Mission Impossible 7 & 8, Transformers, Shantaram, and Jack Ryan. In addition to strategy, policy and protocol I led a global team of medical professionals based in a variety of environments including jungle, polar, ocean, altitude and desert. 

This synergistic mix of in-field experience, complex logistics, scientific study and business acumen has enabled me to create The Expedition Method - an experiential leadership training programme that takes lessons from the wild to benefit high-performing individuals and teams.  

The Expedition Method

The Expedition Method targets development of skill sets crucial to high performing individuals and teams through an evidence-informed, experiential learning experience delivered in an interactive, engaging and thought-provoking way. Interweaving cutting -edge simulation-gamification methodology with tutoring we create a facilitative environment for positive self-development. The Expedition Method is suitable for young people aged 15+ and is adapted accordingly for adult workforces and senior executives cross-industry. We work with a range of sectors including educational, corporate, healthcare, and specialised populations. 

The Evidence

The Expedition Method is underpinned by 3 decades of research collated by a 5-month scientific study employing Intervention Methodology (IM) with Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis at the University of Exeter Medical School (U.K), a prestigious Russell Group institute. The Expedition Method has been piloted with 600 students and 300 adult cross-industry individuals including security, military, educational, medical and business personnel.
